We started of with the caves in the north diving in Ponderosa in the River Run and Little Joe Line as well as Taj Maha where we visited the Chinese Garden Line and the Twin Cenotes. Very nice dives to get to know each other without breaking distance records or squeezing through the tightest restrictions. It also gave Marc the possibility to fine tune his gear since it was the first time back in sidemount configuration after his course with Brian Kakuk in the Bahamas. The main difference being that here we mainly use aluminium tanks and not steel like he had used before.

After that we moved further south to dive in Nohoch Nah Chich where we made a first dive on the main upstream line enjoying the massive decorations and wide rooms. Second dive was downstream which is somewhat darker and smaller but with its dark silted floors and white decorations definitely one of my favourites! I also just have to admit that I like smaller cave.
Next stop was Cenote Dreamgate were we did two dives on the upstream side. Both really fantastic dives filled with beautiful decorations and lots of ups and downs and some nice restrictions and generally lots of nice small cave a bit further back. A very unique Cenote with fragile flow riffled sediment beds, bizarre dense roots and highly decorated passage ways. Once you are a bit further in, there are lines all over the place and all around. Some very narrow angled T intersections without permanent marker and lines literally leading into every little crack around. It is not a big deal but proper marking and focus on navigation is a must. Also keeping track of your comfort zone is important as you move through ever smaller and siltier cave.

After that we went down to Tulum on the Coba Road to dive out of Lukes Hope Cenote. On the first dive we passed through the room of tears to check out the Ts in the back. I always like the combination of the breath taking decorations and nice restricted tunnels. It must have been an amazing thrill for the explorer to find that beautiful section of the cave right behind that little narrow passage. Second dive was done to adrianas room which is really nice too especially in sidemount gear since it allows you to venture passed the mayor restrictions that limit the “general” dive traffic and therefore impact to the cave.

The Last day we spent in Pet Cemetary Cenote. One of my favourite places since Hans first showed it to me, hands down. First dive was towards Cenote I hop and the jump to the right which leads through some insane awesome sidemount passage that just keeps on going. A couple restrictions force you to at least super man one cylinder but due to the very small amount of silt and hard rock definitely doable. It is really a great line that keeps you busy every second of every minute. Second dive was done on the X-Line which is equally a great dive. There is just a crazy amount of pristine cave there which is not only beautiful for its crystal white formations but also super fun to dive due to the ups and downs and tight restrictions.

All in all I had a great week with awesome sidemount diving as well as nice chats in between dives and cool stories about Brian and the caves on the Bahamas.

Recientemente termine un curso con Bram un instructor local , nos encontramos en la tienda unos días antes y estuvimos platicando acerca de los cursos que podría tomar ya que ya había tomado su curso de cueva y le gustaría seguir con su formación educativa.

al final se decidió por el curso de laterales básico ( basic side mount ) ya que tenia la idea de irse después a Filipinas y hay muchos barcos hundidos y es una configuración perfecta para efectuar esta clase de buceos.

El curso de laterales básico ( basic side mount ) consiste en la configuración del equipo ya que es diferente a las otras ya que ya no se llevan los tanques en la espalda con un tradicional tanque doble, se cambia la posición de los tanques y se llevan tanques sencillos uno en cada lado par tener un sistema redundante, la configuración de reguladores y control de flotabilidad, y efectuar buceas en cuevas donde se puede ir con dobles sobre algunas restricciones pero mas cómodamente en laterales.

después de unos cuantos buceos con los laterales y cuando uno se siente cómodo con la configuración se puede tomar el siguiente nivel que seria laterales avanzado, el cual consiste en ir a espacios mas reducidos donde hay que remover unos de los tanques para poder librar la restricción, y donde tenemos un mayor contacto con la cueva por el espacio reducido del área.

Nos encontramos en protec en la mañana para empezar el curso, después de los papeleos y hojas de responsabilidad civil, empezamos con la teoría dando los aspectos del buceo en laterales, configuración de equipo y las ventajas y desventajas de este tipo de sistema. Estábamos revisando los aspectos psicológicos del buceo en laterales cuando recibí una llamada de mi casa, donde mi hijo había tenido un accidente y había que llevarlo al hospital , salí hacia mi casa y patrick se quedo con Bram revisando el resto de la teoría, por fuerte no era algo grabe solo se cayo y se hizo un pequeño corte en la frente la cual necesitaba u nos 4 o 5 puntos de sutura.

Después de la aventura con mi hijo regrese ala tienda y continuamos con el curso, empezamos con el equipo y la modificación de ese, Bram ya contaba con un trans pac y unas rec wings solo tuvimos que agregar unos D-Rings mas para que cuando los tanques se empiecen a estar mas ligueros sigan pegados al cuerpo, después con los reguladores lampara y casco. Al fin terminamos con la configuración del equipo y nos metimos a la alberca del hotel moms para así poder ajustar los tanques y ver si necesitaba plomos, después de unas vueltas en la piscina practicando la posición , flotabilidad y la propulsión decidimos que era suficiente por ese día.

Al siguiente día nos encontramos en protec, cagamos la camioneta y nos dirigimos a al cenote Edén conocido también como Ponderosa, el cual cuenta con una parte abierta excelente para hacer nuestros primeros ejercicios, nos alistamos y descendimos después de hacer barios ejercicios como remover los tanques en diferentes posiciones, y una ves mas practicar la salida de contacto con el compañero y sin visibilidad.
Era hora de hacer nuestro primer buceo el cual fuimos al la parte del manantial ( up stream ) o al river run line donde Bram era el líder del equipo y el cual en la parte de la salida haríamos algunos ejercicios de salida sin visibilidad terminamos el buceo hicimos nuestro debrefing acerca del buceo y ver como podríamos mejorar para el siguiente, hicimos nuestro intervalo de superficie y cambiamos de tanques y estábamos listo para un buceo mas, el cual salió bien refinando los pequeños detalles de flotabilidad y manejo de los gases ya que en este tipo de configuración tenemos que cambiar de un tanque al otro para que siempre estén nivelados y poder contar con 2/3 de gas para la salida.

Al día siguiente preparamos nuestras cosas, cargamos la camioneta y nos dirigimos hacia el cenote de tajmahal, preparamos los tanques y nuestro equipo y nos dirigimos hacia el cenote , realizamos nuestros chequeos de seguridad y la planeación del buceo, el plan consistía en dirigirnos hacia la linea dorada del sifón (dawn stream ) y hacer un salto a la derecha continuar en esa linea hasta el final y hacer otro salto al una mitad de linea y dirigirnos hacia la derecha rumbo city of acre el cual para poder llegar teníamos que pasar por unas restricciones las cuales se pueden pasar en dobles y mas cómodamente en laterales, dimos la vuelta y e la salida realizamos otro ejercicio sin visibilidad , el cual fue exitoso, realizamos nuestro debrefing del buceo y era tiempo de nuestro intervalo de superficie y comer y beber algo, cambiamos nuestros tanques para nuestro segundo buceo.

cuando ya ere tiempo de regresar a bucear decidimos ahora dirigimos hacia la parte del manantial ( up stream ) y hacia una una de las galerías mas decoradas del sistema conocían como chinase garden , el buceo fue espectacular ya que esa parte es muy decorada con estalactitas y estalagmitas .

Al terminar pusimos todo en la camioneta y nos dirigimos a protec para terminar el papeleo , Bram acabo su curso y paso satisfactoriamente, la final estaba muy contento con la nueva configuración, ya que tenia pensado moverse a la filipinas a trabajar y en esa zona hay muchos barcos hundidos haciendo esta nueva configuración que aprendió muy útil ya que es excelente para bucear en este tipo de entornos.
