Jaime De La Puerta Salazar
Jaime was born in Madrid, right in the center of Spain and furthest possible away from the sea. As a kid he moved with his parents to the mountains where he developed the passion for mountain biking and skiing and sports in general. Ten years ago, while working as a swimming instructor and lifeguard someone asked him if he wanted to try scuba diving. He didn’t think much about it, until he got underwater. He then instantly realized that scuba diving would become the passion of his life.
He continued his diving education in Spain until the day he decided to move to Mexico, working as an Open Water Instructor. But as soon as he landed in the Yucatan Peninsula and tried Cenote cavern diving, a whole new world was introduced and he was hooked! He decided to do his Full Cave Course in January of 2011 and further continue to cave dive as much as possible, to gain experience.
Jaime’s adventurous personality and will to travel, kept him moving and diving around Central America and South East Asia. Also living and working in different places around the globe like England, Canada, Australia and Thailand. In 2013 he finally decided to settle down in Tulum, Mexico where his passion lies. Being close to the heart of the best cave dives the planet has to offer and pursuing a career as a cave diving instructor, guide and explorer.
In his spare time, he “geek” out over cave maps, kite surf and relax with friends on the beach. His latest adventure has been to explore a submerged cave called “Kan Ha”, further increasing the positive feelings for the area and providing new exiting challenges.
Jaime leaves Tulum, Mexico for 3 months per year in the months of June – August in order to pursue his other passion and love for mountain biking, working as a guide and teacher in the Swiss Alps.
