Kelvin Davidson

Born at an early age on a little patch of antipodean paradise called New Zealand, Kelvin grew up in and around the ocean, where he first developed a passion for free-diving before moving into SCUBA.

A varied professional background in area’s as diverse as Fitness Trainer, Commercial Fisherman, Public Accountant, Company Director, and several years as a Nightclub Bouncer, make for a few interesting stories and humorous tales, and give him a fairly well balanced outlook on life.

Kelvin has been diving professionally since 2004, and teaching Technical Diving since 2005.

Working in the Philippines from 2005 with his original mentors at Tech Asia, he began his “apprenticeship” as a Technical/Trimix Instructor, and spent his day’s scootering the deep reefs and walls of Puerta Galera, and the Verde Island Passage. It was also at this time he became fascinated by wreck diving, after training and trips to the WWII wrecks of Subic Bay and Coron in the Philippines, and trips further afield to the South China Sea, and the Force-Z wrecks HMS Repulse and Prince of Wales.

From 2008, Kelvin (along with wife Anabel), managed a dive operation in Truk Lagoon, and spent 3 years teaching Technical, Trimix, and Wreck programs in the world’s biggest and best wreck diving playground.

During this time he was involved in the relocation and exploration of several lost shipwrecks, as well as the filming of a number of documentaries.

For years Kelvin and Anabel have been active dry cavers, and have spent months wandering the jungles of South East Asia (Malaysia, Borneo, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Philippines) in search of dark voids to explore.

Kelvins first cave dives were in New Zealand a fair few years back, but it was the formal cave training in Mexico that really turned him onto underground diving, and since then it has never been far from his thoughts – leading to the decision at the end of 2010 to pack up, and head to the Yucatan Peninsula for further adventures…

Kelvin is a passionate and thorough educator who teaches from a broad base of experience, and whose calm, relaxed, and supportive style puts students at ease, and brings out the best in them.

All courses can be taught fluently in several dialects of the English language (New Zealand, Australian, American, Canadian), as well as with a broad range of European, Asian, African and South/Central American accents. Additionally, Kelvin speaks Tagalog (Filipino) well enough to understand when his long-suffering wife Anabel is displeased with him…

When not working, Kelvin can often be found in the gym trying to move heavy things around, or (more often than not) exploring the Mayan underworld with the ever tolerant Mrs Davidson.
